Hi, my name is Kimberly Keen and my husband, daughters and I moved to Sidney Nebraska in 2017 we bought our home and absolutely fell in love with the town and the community. We knew this is where we wanted to raise our children. We love the feeling of a small town and how great the people are here. We started our small business of drywall and painting in 2018. We live on the North side of town which unfortunately doesn’t get the attention it so much deserves. It was the first part of the town that was here and was mostly military housing. I personally feel that the current leaders are not “leading” like they should or could be. There is too much overspending on unnecessary places and things in town. Our roads are being completely neglected along with some of our city buildings. Inflation has hit our little community extremely hard and is making it hard for the average person to live. The cost of living is so high with the taxes being even higher that we are losing people and businesses at a rapid rate. One of our schools is on the verge of being closed as well. I am the average mom, wife and business owner who just wants to speak for the people that aren’t being heard. If we keep taking out “bonds” aka loans we are just going to put Sidney into more debt than it already is. Not just us now but our children will be paying for these loans in the future and put our town into more debt. Our children shouldn’t suffer for the current leader’s irresponsibility’s. The people of Cheyenne county deserve to be heard and apart of all voting of budgets and where they believe the money should go to. The people deserve that much. If I am voted in for city council, I will NOT vote for property tax increases, we have other ways of meeting budgets. I will collaborate with the commissioners and council members to make the budgets work for the people and business owners. We can work together to make improvements to Cheyenne county. I am asking the people to vote for me so therefore we can make the proper changes to our community and help the people prosper. The people of Cheyenne county should get the opportunity to vote on the bonds and or grants that the city could possibly take on because their vote and opinion matters especially when it comes to the possibility of their property taxes being raised to repay these loans.
Priorities
Good morning, Cheyenne county. This morning, I would like to take a moment to discuss the importance of priorities. Sidney is a beautiful, quite little town with so much potential! We have gorgeous parks, hiking paths, unique stores and finally the golf course. Yes, this is what Cheyenne County is about, it costs money to maintain these recreation luxuries. The walking path is neat and the parks are essential. The importance of maintaining the city is also very important. For example, the underpass or 13th avenue is well beyond neglected. It is obvious not only is it neglected for appearance, but also hit on the bridge railing and still has not been fixed since August 22, 2023. I personally have not heard the agenda on this issue by our current local leadership, maybe the golf course parking lot needs to be on hold until some of the maintenance issues throughout the town that have or are failed to provide to get fixed. This is only one example of priorities that should be number 1 on our list. I would like to advocate this specific kind of problem to and for the community of Sidney. I would certainly like to hear the voices of people’s opinion on the urgency on what they feel should be appropriate. This all can be done without future debt of a bond or a big impact of rising taxes. Let’s stop the foolish spending and get our priorities straight. Vote for Kimberly Keen, on May 14, 2024.
